Crony Capitalism: 7 Stocks that Profit From Obama Keystone Backstab

President Barack Obama 's rejection last Wednesday of a key permit for this highly strategic pipeline beneficial to U.S.'s energy independence and job creation goals fueled nationwide outrage, but did very little to boost shares of energy-related companies that could have benefited from Keystone stumbling blocks. "Perhaps this is because the rejection was so foolish by the Administration pandering to environmentalists in an election year that investors are assuming it gets approved eventually when rationality prevails in Washington," says a money manager who prefers to be kept anonymous amid company fundraising efforts.

Democrat Congresswoman: 20,000 Lost Keystone Jobs 'Not That Many'

Jan Schakowsky
Jane Schakowsky (right) via Wikipedia
Jane Schakowsky screws up:
When the hosts asked her to defend President Obama’s decision to block the development of the Keystone pipeline, Schakowsky did not dispute that the project would create jobs, but denied that these jobs were significant:
Twenty thousand jobs is really not that many jobs and investing in green technologies will produce that and more. But I’ll tell you what, you know it seems to me that the Republicans would rather have an issue than a pipeline.

Liberal Politico Claims Obama State of the Union Speech at 8th Grade Level

Although the media would love to present Barack Obama as seven times brainier than George W. Bush, Byron Tau of Politico reports "President Obama's 2012 State of the Union address again rated at an 8th grade comprehension level on the Flesch-Kincaid readability test — the third lowest score of any State of the Union address since 1934."

Disgusting Email from National Wildlife Federation Attacking Keystone Pipeline Jobs

Thanks to you, the endangered whooping crane and other treasured species are safe from the threat of toxic tar sands oil — for now.

Your support helped force the Administration’s recent decision to delay Keystone XL — a controversial pipeline that would carry up to 900,000 barrels per day of toxic tar sands oil from Canada to refineries on the Gulf Coast.

This is a huge win not only for whooping cranes, but also waterfowl, caribou, bald eagles and thousands of other treasured animals.

But our work is far from over. We still need your help in this fight.

The oil industry has redoubled their efforts to get this dirty pipeline approved. As a result, their allies in Congress bundled the Keystone XL issue into unrelated tax legislation. And that’s just the beginning. They’re determined to find a way to transport tar sands through our nation’s heartland.

Please donate to National Wildlife Federation today to help protect wildlife from dirty fuels and other threats. Together we’ll advocate for better pipeline safety standards, do grassroots work in impacted states and fight to stop dangerous projects like Keystone XL in their tracks.

Sincerely,

Felice Stadler,
Director of Climate and Energy

Arizona Democrats Try to Make it Even Easier for Mexicans to Violate Border

“This is a widely popular bill nationwide,” he said. “Revoting on SB 1070 would jack me up about 10 points in the polls.”
Antenori agreed.
“This bill is overwhelmingly popular with residents of this state,” Antenori said. “The likelihood of support for this effort based on that popularity amongst Arizonans is slim to none.”

U.S. farmers overwhelmingly support a Republican to be the next president, despite a strong farm economy during President Barack Obama's administration, according to a Reuters survey released on Wednesday.
The farmers give a slight edge to Mitt Romney over Rick Santorum as the best person to take on Obama and the Democrats in the November elections.
Almost 75 percent of farmers and ranchers intend to vote for a Republican as president, according to a random survey of 462 farmers and ranchers at the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual meeting this week in Honolulu.

Mormon Democrats Like Romney

Almost all Mormon Republicans (94 percent) have a favorable view of their fellow believer, Mitt Romney, but so do a surprising 62 percent of LDS Democrats.
Shared religion doesn’t always trump partisan politics, though. Just ask Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Mormon Democrat from Nevada is viewed unfavorably by more than half of LDS registered voters and fails to crack 50 percent even among fellow party members of his faith.

McGreevey's Revenge: NJ Democrats Try to Legalize Gay Marriage

Screw the economy, the Democrats are desperate to cobble together their homosexual base:
In a dramatic move, Democratic leaders plan to announce at a news conference Monday that a bill legalizing gay marriage will be the first measure introduced in the new session of the Senate and the Assembly, sources with knowledge of their intentions said last night.
A unified Democratic leadership represents the best chance supporters will have to see a bill legalizing gay marriage move through both houses, according to three sources who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the plan.

South Carolina: Another Local Democrat Switching Parties

Charleston County Councilman Elliott Summey plans to switch political parties, a move his father, North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, made more than two decades ago.
Summey, 34, said he plans to officially announce his switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party at an 11 a.m. press conference Friday in the lobby of the Lonnie Hamilton III Public Services Building at 4045 Bridge View Drive in North Charleston. Summey, who landed his council seat as a North Charleston Democrat in 2008, expects many Republican supporters to attend.

A new independent poll finds that Democrat Suzanne Bonamici leads Republican Rob Cornilles, 50 to 39 percent, in the special election race for Oregon's 1st Congressional District.
The poll by SurveyUSA is very close to the findings of another survey -- from Public Policy Polling -- taken in mid-December that also found Bonamici was ahead, 52 percent to 41 percent, of Cornilles.

U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar confirmed rumors that have been swirling around in political circles for months, announcing on Saturday that he will move to Prescott and seek reelection in Arizona’s new 4th Congressional District.
Gosar announced this morning that he’s moving from Flagstaff to CD4, which takes him out of the competitive but Democratic-leaning 1st Congressional District. Prescott is part of his current district, but not the new CD1 he was drawn into during the redistricting process.

Santorum, Riding Wave, Sharpens Aim at Romney

Riding a bump in national polls after his strong showing in Iowa, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum sought Thursday to erode rival Mitt Romney's substantial lead by drawing distinctions in policy and background for GOP voters here and nationwide.
Mr. Santorum cast himself as an advocate for blue-collar workers and their economically troubled communities, hoping to capitalize on differences with Mr. Romney, a wealthy former private-equity investor and son of a Michigan governor, in a GOP field reshaped by Iowa's caucuses.

Rick Santorum has never been shy about picking fights, even with fellow Republicans.
Just two months after arriving in the Senate in 1995 as Pennsylvania’s junior senator, an upstart Santorum and some other conservative senators tried to strip Oregon Republican Sen. Mark Hatfield of his powerful Appropriations Committee chairmanship because of Hatfield’s deciding vote to oppose a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution.

Alabama: Should Artur Davis Switch to GOP?

, U.S. Congressman.
Image via Wikipedia
While not being fully checked out on the vagaries of Alabaman state politics, I believe that the major problem that Griffith ran into was in switching parties while still in office. Artur Davis would not be suffering from that problem if and when he finally decided to run for statewide office on a Republican ticket; and if you do not think that Davis could successfully transition himself from an unsuccessful conservative Democrat to a successful somewhat moderate Republican, then you probably think that all Southerners have horns and a tail anyway.

Alabama GOP Actually Reject Democrat Party Switch

You know the Democrat party is really in the dumps in Alabama when the Republicans can afford to do this.
Swinford said he ran as a Democrat for his seat on the county commission and wanted to wait until he was up for re-election to change parties. He said he's been encouraged by members of the GOP to switch.

David Richardson, clad in his black leather Led Zeppelin jacket, rode his bicycle into the middle of the Iowa Speedway in Newton. There were no drivers on the track, but there was a different kind of race under way in a small building at the center of the facility — one fueled by money and votes instead of gasoline. Texas Congressman Ron Paul was there on Wednesday afternoon to make his case for becoming the next President.
