Florida: Which Convicted Felons Will be Allowed to Vote?

Florida’s decision to require ex-felons who’ve served their prison sentences to also pay a range of financial penalties before they can register to vote is fraught with political, legal and moral implications — for society and individuals.

Floridians may have thought the issue of allowing most ex-felons to vote was resolved in November when voters approved a constitutional amendment restoring voting rights to former felons except murderers and sex offenders. But a new law going into effect Monday has reignited the fight over felon voting.

Akron, Ohio: GOP Council At-Large Candidate Back on Ballot After Screw-Up

Henry Todd, a Republican running for council at-large, voted three minutes after his polling location opened. The ballot he was given listed Democratic candidates. By law, Todd’s participation in another party’s nominating process disqualified him from running as a Republican.

Michigan: Schuette and Witmer in a Deadlock

If Michigan's election for governor was held today, the party's presumed front-runners — Democrat Gretchen Whitmer and Republican Bill Schuette — would be deadlocked in a head-to-head matchup, according to a new poll.

But Schuette would defeat another potential Democratic candidate — Southfield trial attorney Geoffrey Fieger — by 10 percentage points, says the poll from EPIC-MRA of Lansing.

West Virginia: Manchin Has Edge, But is Vulnerable

Assuming that Senator Manchin doesn't switch parties before the next election:

Unveiling polling data to a dwindling crowd on the last day of the state Chamber of Commerce’s 81st annual Meeting and Business Summit, Rex Repass of Research America Inc. said Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., has double-digit leads on two potential head-to-head challengers. Manchin has a 10-point advantage over U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins and a 14-point lead on state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, who are both running for the seat as Republicans.

Kentucky's Mitch McConnell Least Popular National Politician

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has the lowest favorability rating of any elected official with a national profile, according to a new Harvard-Harris poll provided exclusively to The Hill.

Forty-nine percent of voters polled have a negative view of the Senate leader. The rest of those polled didn’t know McConnell, or didn’t know enough to have an opinion. Source: The Hill.
