FLORIDA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE POLLING SHOWS CRIST LEADING BY SOLID MARGIN
Poll also shows Bill Nelson in significant leadTALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 26, 2006) - Today, the Florida Chamber of Commerce released polling numbers that Attorney General Charlie Crist has a solid 14 point lead over Rep. Jim Davis in Florida's gubernatorial race. According to the poll conducted by McLaughlin and Associates, the races for CFO and Attorney General are within the margin of error with Senate President Tom Lee and Bill McCollum leading their opponents by three points.
Conducted from September 24-25, the poll surveyed 800 likely voters and has a sampling error of +/- 3 percent. The poll was weighted for age, race, gender and demographic distribution.
"While Charlie Crist is leading Jim Davis by 14 points and Bill Nelson is leading Katherine Harris by 29 points, the Cabinet races are all within the margin of error" said Marian Johnson, vice president of political strategy for the Florida Chamber. "These races are flying under the voters' radar - if the election were held today, voters would be voting strictly along party lines."
Other results include:
47 percent of respondents believe that Florida is heading in the wrong direction, versus 39 percent choosing right direction; Governor Jeb Bush received a 63 percent approval rating with 31 percent choosing unfavorable; Florida voters chose affordable homeowners/property insurance as their top concern at 29 percent while 27 percent choose education."With 10 candidates and six weeks to go before the general election, we could easily see $100 million being spent on statewide races this cycle," said Johnson.
