Kentucky: Barr Trails Chandler by Only 4 pts

Chandler also should worry about other numbers in the poll, said J. Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research of Washington, D.C., which conducted a district-wide telephone survey of 500 registered voters Oct. 15 to 19 for the Herald-Leader and WKYT-TV.
Only 46 percent of voters said they approved of Chandler's job performance as congressman while just 42 percent said they held a favorable opinion of him.
The fact that Chandler fell under 50 percent on all those questions — after four terms in Congress and two decades in Kentucky politics — suggests that many undecided voters would consider a change, he said. These sorts of numbers often precede an incumbent getting the boot, he said.

New Jersey: Panic in Frank Pallone Camp, Cancels Debate With Anna Little at Last Minute

Representative Frank J. Pallone (D-NJ-6) abruptly canceled his appearance at a scheduled candidates' forum with Republican challenger Anna Little. But Little announced that she would appear as scheduled at the forum sponsored by two county medical societies.
Pallone cited a "scheduling conflict," according to this press release by Little, who suggested that Pallone was simply running scared.
Frank Pallone is scared to talk to doctors in New Jersey about the government takeover of healthcare he rammed through the Congress. And that's disappointing. Not surprising, I must say, given his efforts to do everything he can to find ways not to have to appear on the same stage or in the same forum with me, but disappointing nevertheless.
The good news is that I'll have all that time to myself to hear the doctors complain about PalloneCare!

2010 Wins and Redistricting Will Combine for More Republican Gains into the Near Future

The betting is that Republicans take the House of Representatives in November, but there appears to be an even better chance they also will secure an edge in shaping the next four Congresses after that.
The GOP can do this by sweeping governorships in states that will lose or add congressional seats beginning in 2012. Because their quotient of House seats will change, those states will draw entirely new district maps.

Republicans More Than Double Generic Poll Lead From a Month Ago

Likely voters prefer Republican congressional candidates over Democrats by 7 percentage points in an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll out Wednesday — up 4 percentage points from a month ago.
Republicans hold a 50 percent to 43 percent lead among likely voters in the generic ballot matchup, a measure asking voters whether they'd prefer to vote for a Democrat or a Republican for Congress.

Independents as Upset as Republicans

More bad news for Democrats clinging to control of Congress: Independent voters are nearly as grumpy as Republicans about politics this year.
In an Associated Press-GfK Poll this month, 58 percent of independents and 60 percent of Republicans said politics is making them angry, compared with 31 percent of Democrats who said so. About 7 in 10 independents and Republicans were disgusted, compared with 4 in 10 Democrats, and independents and Republicans were likelier than Democrats to be disappointed, depressed and frustrated.
