Lawmakers could look at changes next year to make it more difficult for political candidates to switch parties mid-campaign, a proposal directly in response to Gov. Charlie Crist's defection from the Republican Party this past year.
The Florida Senate's Ethics and Elections Committee produced a report this month that makes several suggestions related to the issue, including a requirement that a candidate be registered with the political party whose nomination he or she is seeking for a year before qualifying for the election. It also recommends the state adopt a clear ``sore loser'' provision, spelling out a definite ban on losers of party primaries from finding ways to run in an ensuing general election.
