Louisiana: Cao May Vote Against Health Care Bill This Time

Official photo of Representative Joseph Cao (R...Image via Wikipedia
The lone Republican who voted for the Democrats' health care reform bill in November won't support the final bill if it doesn't have the same abortion restrictions that passed in the House.
A spokeswoman for Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao, Louisiana Republican, said Tuesday that the lawmaker is concerned the language in the final bill is going to be closer to what passed the Senate, which he doesn't support.

PARTY SWITCH! Alabama Democrat Rep. Parker Griffith Joins GOP

{{w|Parker Griffith}}, member of the United St...

Griffith’s party switch comes on the eve of a pivotal congressional health care vote and will send a jolt through a Democratic House Caucus that has already been unnerved by the recent retirements of a handful of members who, like Griffith, hail from districts that offer prime pickup opportunities for the GOP in 2010.

Sarah Palin: Obamacare would give beaureaucrats life-and-death rationing powers

LATROBE, PA - OCTOBER 31: Republican U.S. vic...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Writing in the New York Times last month, President Barack Obama asked that Americans "talk with one another, and not over one another" as our health-care debate moves forward.

I couldn't agree more. Let's engage the other side's arguments, and let's allow Americans to decide for themselves whether the Democrats' health-care proposals should become governing law.

Obama & His Congress Lose Favor With Democrats

Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.), rebounds the ba...Image via Wikipedia

Nearly everyone seems to agree that President Obama is bleeding liberal support over his overly conciliatory approach to the GOP on health care reform and his apparent softening of support for the public option.

But is it true?

Yep, it certainly may be true, if you believe the new Research 2000 poll for DailyKos. The survey finds a surprisingly sharp drop in the favorability ratings of Obama and Congressional Dems — among Democrats.

AARP Losing Tens of Thousands of Members Due to Support of Obamacare

WASHINGTON - JULY 28: United States Presiden...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

About 60,000 senior citizens have quit AARP since July 1 due to the group's support for a health care overhaul, a spokesman for the organization said Monday.

The membership loss suggests dissatisfaction on the part of AARP members at a time when many senior citizens are concerned about proposed cuts to Medicare providers to help pay for making health care available for all. But spokesman Drew Nannis said it wasn't unusual for the powerful, 40 million-strong senior citizens' lobby to shed members in droves when it's advocating on a controversial issue.

Obama Temporarily Drags Dead Grandmother Back Out From Under the Bus

ATT00016Image by pd2020@sbcglobal.net via Flickr

"I just lost my grandmother last year. I know what it's like to watch somebody you love, who's aging, deteriorate and have to struggle with that," an impassioned Obama told a crowd as he spoke of Madelyn Payne Dunham. He took issue with "the notion that somehow I ran for public office or members of Congress are in this so they can go around pulling the plug on grandma."

Whole-Food Brats Throwing Hissy Fit Over CEO Coming Out Against Obamacare

Russian Rainbow Gathering.F-ing Hippie Image via Wikipedia

Wah!!!

"I will never shop there again," vowed Joshua, a 45-year-old blogger, who asked that his last name not be published.

Wah!!! I want socialized health care!!! I WANT it!!!

"I'm boycotting [Whole Foods] because all Americans need health care," said Lent, 33, who used to visit his local Whole Foods "several times a week."

No!!! No!!! No!!!! No!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I will no longer be shopping at Whole Foods," Taylor told ABCNews.com. "I think a CEO should take care that if he speaks about politics, that his beliefs reflect at least the majority of his clients."

If you read this article by ABC 'news' you will get the distinct feeling that these people think Whole Foods only belongs to the Democrats of this country. Maybe Convervatives will make up for any loss of Socialist business that results from this incident. But then again, Republicans are way too smart to pay the inflated prices at whole foods. That's a special deal just for the Libs.

NPR Calls American Protests 'Summer of Hate'

Forty years ago, long-haired, incense-burning baby boomers were subjecting us to "The Summer of Love," and they got all worked up and piled into VW micro-buses and drove out to upstate New York, rolling around in the mud and taking drugs, and generally alarming their parents with the threat of — I don't know — communes.

Now, it's 40 years later, and gray-haired, incensed boomers are subjecting us to what I guess you might want to call "The Summer of Hate," to judge from the pictures of people's faces contorted with rage, calling each other names that they used to reserve for "The Man." Now, instead of the peace and harmony, make-love-not-war thing, they're getting all worked up and piling into tricked-out minivans and driving out to their congressional representatives' offices, rolling around in their Medicare-provided scooters, yelling about the cost of drugs and generally alarming their parents with the threat of — I don't know — health care.

Harry Reid Accuses Americans Protesting Socialist Healthcare of 'Sabotage'

"These are nothing more than destructive efforts to interrupt a debate that we should have, and are having," Reid said. "They are doing this because they don't have any better ideas. They have no interest in letting the negotiators, even though few in number, negotiate. It's really simple: they're taking their cues from talk show hosts, Internet rumor-mongerers ... and insurance rackets."

About 20 protesters gathered in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Thursday to let Democratic Rep. Scott Murphy know they oppose the health care plans in Washington. They carried signs saying: "Obamacare Seniors beware! Rationing is here," and "If socialized medicine is best ... why didn't Ted Kennedy go to Canada?" Motorists honked as they drove by.

How to Beat Up the 'Right-Wing Mob'

If right-wing protesters are going to show up and yell at their elected officials during town hall meetings, left-wing activists need to start coordinating with those representatives to provide "cover" for them says a 4-page memo distributed by Health Care for America Now!, a group supporting President Obama's recommended plans.

4 Lap Dog Democrats Cave In

The Blue Dog and IImage by Mira (on the wall) via Flickr

There's a few still hanging on though. In the end, the few Democrats that stand strong against the Socialist Health Bill will be the ones to watch out for in 2011. They will be the most likely congressmen to switch parties if the Republicans gain control of the House in 2010 or come close to doing so.
The Energy and Commerce Committee will resume its markup of healthcare legislation Wednesday afternoon under a deal between Blue Dogs and House leaders, but there will be no floor vote on the legislation before August.

Delaying a vote until after August was a key demand of the Blue Dogs, along with reducing the cost of the bill by $100 billion and allowing states to create health "co-ops" that would compete with the government-run "public option" and private insurers.

Checklist of Obama's Campaign Promises

Springfield, Illinois, USA. "The Future F...Image via Wikipedia

International Business Daily gathered a list of Obama's promises last November just after the election. You can use this as a score card to see how honest Obama is and whether or not he is really looking out for you during the 4 years of his first and perhaps only term:

Taxes

• Give a tax break to 95% of Americans.

• Restore Clinton-era tax rates on top income earners.

• "If you make under $250,000, you will not see your taxes increase by a single dime. Not your income taxes, not your payroll taxes, not your capital gains taxes. Nothing."

• Dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of Americans will be able to do their taxes in less than five minutes.

• Give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job they create in the U.S.

• Eliminate capital gains taxes for small business and startup companies.

• Eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000.

• Expand the child and dependent care tax credit.

• Expand the earned income tax credit.

• Create a universal mortgage credit.

• Create a small business health tax credit.

• Provide a $500 "make work pay" tax credit to small businesses.

• Provide a $1,000 emergency energy rebate to families.

Energy

• Spend $15 billion a year on renewable sources of energy.

• Eliminate oil imports from the Middle East in 10 years.

• Increase fuel economy standards by 4% a year.

• Weatherize 1 million homes annually.

• Ensure that 10% of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012.

Environment

• Create 5 million green jobs.

• Implement a cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

• Get 1 million plug-in hybrids on the road by 2015.

Labor

• Sign a fair pay restoration act, which would overturn the Supreme Court's pay discrimination ruling.

• Sign into law an employee free choice act — aka card check — to make it easier for unions to organize.

• Make employers offer seven paid sick days per year.

• Increase the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2009.

National security

• Remove troops from Iraq by the summer of 2010.

• Cut spending on unproven missile defense systems.

• No more homeless veterans.

• Stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq.

• Finish the fight against Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaida terrorists.

Social Security

• Work in a "bipartisan way to preserve Social Security for future generations."

• Impose a Social Security payroll tax on incomes above $250,000.

• Match 50% of retirement savings up to $1,000 for families earning less than $75,000.

Education

• Demand higher standards and more accountability from our teachers.

Spending

• Go through the budget, line by line, ending programs we don't need and making the ones we do need work better and cost less.

• Slash earmarks.

Health care

• Lower health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.

• Let the uninsured get the same kind of health insurance that members of Congress get.

• Stop insurance companies from discriminating against those who are sick and need care the most.

• Spend $10 billion over five years on health care information technology.

Americans Against Obama Healthcare

Pollster John Zogby, president and founder of ...John Zogby. Image via Wikipedia

"By a 50-42 margin, Americans oppose the House of Representatives' bill introduced July 14," said S. Ward Casscells, M.D., vice president of external affairs and public policy and the John Edward Tyson Distinguished Professor in Cardiology at the UT Health Science Center at Houston. "This bill would call for most employers to sponsor health plans and would also create a Medicare-like plan for those under 65 who have no other health plan. The increased costs would be covered by increasing income taxes on individuals making more than $280,000 and families making more than $350,000."

Pelosi, Reid Will Deny Public Opportunity to Read Healthcare Bill

WASHINGTON - AUGUST 3: Senate Majority Leade...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) will not give the public a week to review the final text of a health-care reform bill before it is voted on later this year.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) has also declined to commit to giving the public a week to read and consider the final health-care bill.

At her press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked whether the health-care bill would be handled differently than the stimulus bill, which came up in February. The 1,071-page final text of that bill was posted on the House Appropriations Committee’s Web site late on a Thursday night and then voted on the next day.
