Death of Rural Democrats?

Rural America has long been associated with conservatism. Small towns tend to be older and whiter and they often have more military veterans. Those are all groups that lean Republican.
The surprising thing, according to Bishop's analysis, is that Democrats were still managing to win and hold a lot of rural seats -– often by distancing themselves from the national party and downplaying the Democratic brand.
Bishop says Democrats have to do that because people in small towns see their party being defined by urban politicians.
"When Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are mentioned in these advertisements, they're described as someone other than us -– politics now is about teams and it's about tribes," he said.

Indiana: Walorski Cuts Donnelly Lead to 5

Three Indiana Congressional Districts, all held by Democrats, were targeted by the Republicans this year. They are the 2nd, the 8th, and the 9th Districts. The 2nd is considered a bellwether. That means as it goes, so goes Congress and the race there is getting tighter.
The WISH-TV Indiana 2010 Election poll shows Democrat Joe Donnelly in the lead with a 5 point margin at 48 percent. Republican Jackie Walorski is at 43 percent with the libertarian at just 2 percent.

VFW Fires its PAC Board After it Endorses Far-Left Fringe of Anti-Veteran Candidates

The Veterans of Foreign Wars PAC, which endorsed an unbelievable slate of left-wing candidates this month (including Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Barbara Boxer), has been shut down by the VFW leadership, according to the Wall Street Journal.
This doesn’t appear to be anything meaningless or mealy-mouthed either. On Friday, the VFW Commander-in-Chief removed all 11 members of the VFW-PAC board after they refused to rescind their endorsements. He also issued a memo stating that he will move to dissolve the PAC at the annual VFW convention in August.

Alabama: GOP Running Ads Against Blue-Lap-Dog Bright

The committee is not running ads against 5th District Congressman Parker Griffith, also a Blue Dog Democrat. Sere said that's because Parker has said he would not vote for Pelosi for speaker, while Bright has not distanced himself from her.

Pelosi Protested in Denver Visit

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, visiting a Denver clinic for the homeless Thursday, insisted that Democrats are united in backing health care reform and brushed off a question of whether raucous, conservative-led protests against reform have hurt the effort.

"This is called the legislative process," she said during a brief question-and-answer period after touring the Stout Street Clinic in downtown Denver. "There are differences of opinions. This is the democratic process. . . . This is a very big initiative, to change health care in America."

Pelosi, Reid Will Deny Public Opportunity to Read Healthcare Bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) will not give the public a week to review the final text of a health-care reform bill before it is voted on later this year.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) has also declined to commit to giving the public a week to read and consider the final health-care bill.

At her press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked whether the health-care bill would be handled differently than the stimulus bill, which came up in February. The 1,071-page final text of that bill was posted on the House Appropriations Committee’s Web site late on a Thursday night and then voted on the next day.
