Michigan: Redistricting Map Would Combine Sander Levin & Gary Peters in One District

According to a map released Friday by Senate and House Republicans, Democratic U.S. Reps. Sander Levin of Royal Oak and Gary Peters of Oakland County's Bloomfield Township would end up in the same district, potentially forcing a runoff. Michigan is losing a congressional seat after seeing its population decline in the 2010 census. Republicans have drawn maps that would allow them to keep the nine districts they hold while shrinking the number of Democratic districts from six to five.

Michigan: Redistricting May Change Political Landscape

The congressional map will be especially contentious. Michigan is expected to lose one of its 15 seats in Congress as the state's population has stagnated while there has been growth in the South and West.
That means that two incumbents are likely to end up in one district. It could be two Democrats, as in 2002, or a Republican and a Democrat. And it's most likely to be in southeast Michigan, where the population growth has been slowest.

Michigan: Raczkowski Leads Peters by 5 pts

A new poll conducted by Great Lakes Strategies shows Republican 9th District Congressional District Rocky Raczkowski with a 5-percentage point lead (48 percent to 43 percent) over U.S. Rep. Gary Peters (D-West Bloomfield).

Shocker in Michigan: Dingell LOSING to Steele by 4 pts

The automated phone survey of 300 people in the 15th Congressional District showed Steele getting 43.8% of the vote. Dingell, a Dearborn Democrat and the longest-serving member of Congress, got 39.5%. About 11% were undecided. The gap is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 5.6 percentage points. The poll was conducted Monday.

Michigan: 3 Republicans Lead Democrat Cherry in Governor's Race
