Wisconsin, Colorado, Pennsylvania & Kentucky Polls Look Good for GOP

Over the last 24 hours, a series of polls for Senate races have been released from Marist and Rasmussen, and all of them look good for the GOP.  In three states which would provide key pickups for Republicans, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, their candidates have taken leads and have picked up some momentum heading into the last month of the campaign.  In all three states, the losses will be a profound statement of Democratic erosion.

Democrat Panic: Colorado Governor Ritter Quits Too

Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) will not seek a second term this fall, according to Democratic sources briefed on his decision.

Ritter, elected in a landslide in 2006, had seen his political fate dip considerably in the intervening years, and faced an extremely difficult re-election race against former Rep. Scott McInnis (R) in November.

Record Crowd: 22,000 Adoring Fans Greet Sarah Palin

With just 15 days to go until Election Day, there was a record breaking crowd at Suplizio. According to Mesa County Republicans the rally drew 22,000 people making it the biggest in Grand Junction's history. The speech was only about 15 minutes, but it touched on a variety of issues from energy independence to the economy.

Biden's Attack on Coal Could Cost Obama Election

Immediately after Biden's comment, his campaign had tried to backpedal, saying Biden was attempting to draw a distinction between the U.S. and China's outdated technology and that the U.S. should lead by developing better clean-coal methods.

The misstep, however, has caused headaches for the campaign in a number of battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Virginia, where the western part of the state is dominated by coal production.

McCain Office in Colorado Threatened, Sent White Powder

John McCain's campaign office in Denver, Colorado, has received a letter containing a threat and "an amount of white powder in it," a McCain campaign spokesman told CBS News' Michelle Levi.

"We immediately notified local and federal law enforcement agencies and are looking to cooperate with them," McCain spokesman Jeff Sadosky said.

Colorado: McCain is up by a nose 46 - 44 percent, compared to a 49 - 44 percent Obama lead June 26.

Democrats Caught Not Paying Gas Tax in Denver

The committee hosting the Democratic National Convention has used the city's gas pumps to fill up and apparently avoided paying state and federal fuel taxes.

The practice, which began four months ago, may have ended hours after its disclosure. An aide to Mayor John Hickenlooper released a statement Tuesday evening saying that Denver 2008 Host Committee members would pay market prices for fuel and would also be liable for all applicable taxes.

In Colorado, Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain by seven percentage points, 49% to 42%. However, when leaners are included, McCain is more competitive and pulls to within three points, 50% to 47%.

Fishy Colorado Poll Stacked in Favor of Demorats

Now if you take the official partisan breakdown of Colorado and use the poll numbers from PPP for each candidate’s total in each party, you would get a result of Obama 45%-McCain 44%. Within the margin of error for sure, but why wouldn’t the pollster make sure to match the actual partisan breakdown of the state, especially when that figure is readily available?
