Virginia: George Allen Would Narrowly Win Back Senate Seat

George Allen, via WikipediaThe Roanoke College survey has Allen leading Kaine by 3 percentage points, 42 percent to 39 percent, with 19 percent undecided. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
The Institute for Policy and Opinion Research at Roanoke College interviewed 601 registered voters between Sept. 6 and Sept. 17. The results are statistically weighted for gender, race and age.
Allen and Kaine are seeking the seat held by Democrat Jim Webb, who is not running for re-election. The former governors are the front-runners in their respective parties and already are trading salvos on contentious issues.

Obama Sinking in Virginia

Virginia voters' attitudes about Barack Obama's job performance have soured, according to results of a Democratic polling outfit's recent survey which suggests more people now rate the president negatively.

Public Policy Polling found that 48 percent of Virginia voters disapprove of Obama's job performance, while 47 percent approve of it.

While that's a slim difference, it represents a significant decline from the 51-44 percent positive margin PPP reported Obama had after Osama bin Laden's death.

Virginia: Kaine Leads Allen by 3 pts

Real Clear Politics

Kaine edges Allen, 46 percent to 43 percent, among registered Virginia voters surveyed by Public Policy Polling (D). The difference between the two candidates, however, is within the poll's margin of error. Both candidates have identical support (87 percent) from their political respective bases, but Kaine leads Allen among independents by 11 points.

Associated Press Claims 2012 Could be Worse for Democrats Than 2010

Last week's election was bad for Democrats. The next one could be worse.
Senate Democrats running in 2012 will be trying to hold their jobs in states where Republicans just scored major congressional and gubernatorial victories — Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Mexico and Virginia.
The Democrats' problems don't end with senators.

Virginia: Morgan Griffith Takes 1 pt Lead Over Rick Boucher

In a SurveyUSA polling conducted exclusively for WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, it's Griffith 47%, Boucher 46%, within the survey's theoretical margin of sampling error. Griffith's lead may or may not be statistically significant; the contest should be reported as even.

Boucher & McIntyre Added to NRCC Vulnerable List

According to a GOP strategist who tracks ad buys, the NRCC has placed an $82,000 buy against Rep. Rick Boucher (D) in Virginia's 9th district as well as a $45,000 buy against Rep. Mike McIntyre (D) in North Carolina's 7th district. The ad buys are for the week of Sept. 17-23.

Virginia: Smears by Deeds Only Increase McDonnell Lead by 1

Has Bob McDonnell, the Republican nominee for governor of Virginia in the Nov. 3 election, suffered much political damage over some controversial social policy views he expressed in a graduate thesis 20 years ago?

A Rasmussen Reports survey conducted Sept. 1, two days after McDonnell's thesis was first reported by The Washington Post, suggests that he has not, at least for now.

Virginia: White House Pressures Wilder to Endorse Deeds

It does not help Deeds that the nation's first elected black governor, Virginia Democrat Douglas Wilder, is cool to him. Wilder told The Washington Times last week that Deeds risked becoming a "me too" candidate. Wilder then complimented McDonnell for reaching out to Virginians who don't traditionally vote Republican.

Despite a push from the White House, Wilder is miles from endorsing Deeds. McDonnell has made numerous calls on the former governor. Deeds' first meeting with Wilder is expected this week.

Is that all they have to use as ammunition? I guess so:

Convinced that Americans still hold Bush responsible for the nation's economic woes -- and will show more patience with Democratic policies if reminded of their dissatisfaction with the eight years of his presidency -- Democratic candidates have stepped up efforts to link GOP opponents to Bush, repeating a strategy that helped them take over Congress, the White House and a number of state offices in the past two election cycles.

In Virginia, Democratic gubernatorial candidate R. Creigh Deeds has pounced on statements by Republican Robert F. McDonnell indicating that Bush's tax cuts were good for the economy in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The Bush name has littered Deeds's statements in the past week.

You will also notice that in the poll, Southern Connecticut—or Northern Virginia as some people still call it, is completely out of whack with the rest of the state.

Survey USA has the Republicans ahead in Virginia while Quinnipiac, Monmouth University and Strategic Vision have Christopher Christie leading Corzine. To sweep these two races would be a nice momentum builder for 2010.
